Marion County Citizens Academy
Pound the gavel as a Marion County commissioner. Stare
fear in the face as a Marion County firefighter, and walk through
freedom to see veterans' sacrifices first hand. Marion County Citizens
Academy participants have done this and more, and interested residents
and business owners can have their own opportunities to get an inside
view to Marion County if they sign up for the Marion County Citizens
Academy.
The Citizens Academy is a hands-on, interactive program that offers
citizens a behind-the-scenes look at many Marion County services and
departments. Past academy experiences include touring the Baseline
Landfill and Marion County Animal Center, designing a park and even
serving as a commissioner for a day.
A free program, the Citizens Academy lasts for 10 weeks and starts in
March each year. Up to 30 candidates can participate in each yearly
academy. Attendees must fill out an application and attend eight of the
10 sessions to graduate.
Marion County Administration is currently accepting applications for the
upcoming Citizens Academy. Interested individuals may apply online
(shown below), request an application over the phone or request an
application in person by visiting the McPherson Governmental Complex
(601 SE 25th Ave., Ocala). For more information, contact Executive
Administrative Manager Jeannie Rickman by
email or at 352-438-2300.
