Importance of Spaying and Neutering

  • 2000 dogs and 3000 cats are born every hour in the United States compared to 415 humans.
  • 15 million healthy, loving and friendly cats, dogs, kittens and puppies will face euthanasia as a form of animal control
  • One unspayed female dog, her mate and their offspring can produce up to 67,000 dogs in just 6 years.
  • One unspayed female cat, her mate and their offspring can produce 370,092 cats in just 7 years.
  • Letting your animal have puppies or kittens contributes to the pet overpopulation.  There are not enough homes for all of the animals born from pets whose owners did not spay or neuter them.

These kittens want a new home.
Please spay or neuter your
animal so these animals' new
home won't already be taken.

Benefits of spaying or neutering your animal

  • Animals live healthier lives after being sterilized. Females will not suffer from uterine ovarian cancer and they will have a much lower risk of breast cancer. Males have a lower rate of  prostate disease and will not be subject to testicular cancer.
  • Sterilized cats are less likely to mark their territory.
  • Female cats will not have a heat cycle (during which they are more likely to cry, act nervously and attract unwanted male animals).
  • Neutered pets are less likely to roam, fight or run away.
  • Sterilizing your animal reduces the number of homeless animals and thus decreases the number of public nuisance animals and needless euthanasia.
