Help “Bring the Harvest Home”
Local food pantries have seen requests for grocery assistance increase by up to
44 percent since this summer. The spike has coincided with a dwindling supply of
donations, leaving area pantries in a dire spot and vulnerable to not being able
to assist area residents. On Oct. 4, 2011, the Marion County Board of County
Commissioners launched a 21-day food drive called “Bring the Harvest Home” to
help re-stock these depleted food pantries and provide aid for Marion County’s
most needy residents.
The pantries are in most urgent need of:
| - |
Dry goods/foods that complement dry goods
(rice, pasta, pasta sauce, cereal, crackers, peanut butter
and jelly). |
| - |
Canned meats (corned beef, corned beef
hash, ham and tuna). |
| - |
Canned vegetables and fruit. |
| - |
Baby items (ranging from powdered formula
and jarred food to diapers and lotion). |
| - |
Toiletries, such as soap, shampoo,
deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste and toilet paper are
also always needed. |
