Special Notice

To: Contractors, Permit Runners, Homeowners, and Design Professionals:

On June 27, 2007 Governor Charlie Crist signed legislation mandating changes to all building permitting applications and notice of commencements filed in Florida. The date for all counties to be in compliance was July 2, 2007.

There is some confusion about Marion County accepting the previous version of the Permit Application and Notice of Commencement. When revised forms have been introduced (with modifications determined by Marion County) we have allowed for a "soft" rollout on compliance. A grace period was provided for customers to begin using the new version of a form.

However, this is NOT the case with the legislative mandates required in House Bill 1285. Marion County met the governor's deadline for changing all documentation, and we want to bring all contractors and builders into compliance as well.

Therefore:

Effective Monday, July 16, 2007, all Permit Applications and Notice of Commencements submitted to Marion County must be on new forms.

Permit Applications and Notice of Commencements which are signed, notarized, and have been submitted for recording before July 16 can be on the “old” forms.

There will be no exceptions made by the Building Official.

For your convenience the GM Permit Application, along with the Notice of Commencement and Fax Permit Application (all with the additional new State-required language) are available on our website: www.marioncountyfl.org/building

Look in the right-hand column for the Building Department Forms link.
