CDBG – Community Development Block Grant

  FAQ's

bulletHow are projects chosen?

There is an annual application process that begins in January of each year. Contact the Community Services Department at 620-3960 for complete information and an application packet.

bullet Can individuals apply for CDBG funds to fix up their house?

This grant is designed to serve areas and communities, not necessarily individuals. The SHIP & HOME Programs help individuals attain a first home or rehabilitate an existing home.
Physically challenged individuals may apply for the Mobility Ramp Program which provides ramps for income eligible households.

bullet How can I have input into what the priorities should be?

Any resident of the County or local agency can have a voice by attending public hearings and participating in surveys. Residents and Agencies may request to be notified of public hearings.

bulletCan CDBG funds be used to renovate our neighborhood church?

No – these funds cannot be used for programs of a primarily religious nature, political activities, government expenses or buildings for the general conduct of government.

Funds also may not be used for operating and maintenance expenses, or the purchase of equipment, furnishings and supplies.

bulletWhat are the basic requirements for applying for these funds?

You must be able to document how the project benefits low income households, meets the priorities established in the consolidated plan, and does not duplicate other services already offered. Contact the Community Services Department at 620-3962 for a complete application packet which explains in detail all the requirements of the grant.
