About 4-H

4-H clubFounded in 1902, 4-H was incorporated as the youth componet into the Extension Service in 1914.

4-H is a non-formal, education program teaching leadership, citizenship and other life skills to youth.

4-H provides hands-on, learn-by-doing educational experiences through clubs, special-interest groups, short-term projects, school-age child care, individual and family mentoring, camps, and school enrichment programs.

The backbone of 4-H are its clubs, which are run by volunteer leaders. All clubs consists of five or more youth, from at least two different families. Marion County offers several club opportunities, including special interest clubs like steer and horse, in-school, and general community.

Clubs usually concentrates on one or more projects. In addition to traditional projects like raising a hog or steer, gardening, participating on judging teams and family and consumer science activities, Marion county offers a number of non-traditional projects like bicycle safety, citizenship, rocketry, wood working, and small engines.  The goal of all 4-H projects is the development of life skills.  For more information on 4-H, visit Florida-4-H.org
