   Wild Fires

   

Prevention:    
   
               

bullet Maintain a legible and  clearly  marked street  number
  and  2-foot x  15-foot  driveway  clearance  for  fire engines
 
bullet Prune lower  branches  within six feet of  the  ground
bullet Clear dry grass and  dead leaves AT  LEAST 30  FEET
  from  home and  remove  branches  within 10  feet of Chimneys
 
bullet Install  roof  covering  material  with  a  Class-A Fire-
Resistive Rating
   
         

Maintain an emergency water supply within 1,000 feet of your home through one of the
following:
        
 

bullet Community water/hydrant system
   
bullet Cooperative emergency storage tank with neighbors
   
bullet Drafting site or “dry hydrant” on a lake 
   
bullet Swimming pool
   

 

Surviving a Wildfire:
 

bullet
 

 Call 9-1-1 immediately if you see a smoke in a remote area or in an open space
 

bullet

Stay inside your home, if you are in the path of smoke and soot, especially if you have

allergies or breathing problems


If You Are in the Path of a Wildfire

 

 

 

bullet If  hoses and adequate water  are  available
set them up. Fill buckets with water
 
bullet Remove combustible materials from the area
surrounding your house
 
bullet Turn a light on in  each  room for visibility in
case of smoke
 
bullet Close all doors and windows but do not lock
them
 
bullet Close all Venetian blinds and non-flammable
window coverings
