Marion County has more than 2,865 miles of both paved and unpaved roads which are maintained by the Road Division.  Even so, this amount still does not cover all of Marion County.  There are many roads which are not maintained by the county, meaning they are private, under developer maintenance or are out of our jurisdiction.

Our goal is to provide the best service possible to the citizens of Marion County by assuring the roads and rights-of-way in the county road system are maintained in a proficient, timely manner and are kept safe for the traveling public.  Our division operates through the main office listed above, in addition to three substations located in various places within the county.

The county is divided into three districts, each maintained by a substation (North, Southeast & Southwest).  These substations work four 10-hour days each week (the North & Southwest Districts work Monday through Thursday and the Southeast District work Tuesday through Friday), enabling us with countywide coverage.  To see how these districts are formed see the map.

Each district is responsible for grading, patching pot holes, mowing, trimming trees, and other types of maintenance on a daily basis.

During times of emergency the Road Division works in assisting the residents of Marion County.  We work closely with other governing agencies during disaster assistance, clearing roadways form debris, water, etc. for safe passage.

We rely on the public to assist us in the notification of road hazards or maintenance problems.  Upon calling the main office, a service request is produced, investigated and evaluated for corrective measures.  The citizen will be notified of the details, normally within three days, of what action is to be taken.

Below is a general map of how we divided the county into maintenance districts with their respective substations.

We do not maintain city, state, or federal roads.  We will, however, when a situation arises, assist with emergency or hazardous conditions.
