Fire Investigations

MCFR Fire Investigator Angie Sweeney (right)MCFR's fire investigators pin-point the origin and cause of commercial, residential and agricultural fires, responding to most fires involving fatalities, commercial structures and significant property losses. During the 2007-2008 fiscal year, MCFR investigated 37 fires, including three fire deaths.

When determining the origin and cause of a fire, investigators do an exterior investigation first. They look at burn patterns as well as interview witnesses and first responding firefighters. All findings are documented, and these findings often help MCFR better serve the public and safeguard citizens. When firefighters know a fire hazard exists, they can warn citizens and teach them fire safety and prevention.
