Marion County Fire Rescue relies on several funding sources to pay for its exceptional service, including a non-ad valorem fire assessment based on benefit of service; general fund millage based on property values; impact fees based on new development and other fees for building inspections, hazmat spills and illegal burns.

MCFR 2009-2010 Fire & EMS Training Data

The Fire and EMT Career Academy is a dual-enrollment program offered to high school seniors interested in pursuing a career in fire rescue services. During their senior year of high school, students take the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Firefighter I class and earn emergency medical technician (EMT) certifications. The program, first implemented during the 2002 - 2003 school year, is a three-party partnership among the Marion County School Board, Marion County Fire Rescue and Central Florida Community College.
