LOGISTICS
Marion County Fire Rescue's Logistics group, which falls under
the Support Services Division, is responsible for purchasing,
inventorying, maintaining and distributing 90 percent of the
supplies and equipment for the departments 27 fire stations and
350-plus firefighters.
This includes a wide variety of items such as extrication tools,
fire hoses, station furnishings, uniforms and protective
clothing as well as emergency medical supplies and cleaning
products.
Two fire rescue employees operate out of MCFR's Logistics
warehouse which is complete with high rack storage capabilities.
This centralized operation allows MCFR to purchase items at bulk
rates, saving taxpayer money and improving efficiency.
Logistics crews additionally perform repair services for
motorized equipment, nozzles, flashlights, chainsaws, fans and
extrication tools.
This saves thousands of dollars each year and eliminates costly
third-party technicians to tackle these tasks. It also enables
Logistics crews to deliver needed tools and equipment to field
firefighters faster.
During large-scale incidents, the Logistics group will also
activate to support the Operations Division, providing
additional equipment, command platforms, staging areas and
firefighter rehabilitation services. |
