The Fleet Management Department is responsible for the
maintenance of all county vehicles and equipment. This would include
everything from the trucks the building inspectors drive, the equipment
you see out at the Baseline Landfill, the trucks used to maintain our
roads and right of ways.
Fleet Management is also in charge of the purchasing of all county
vehicles and equipment. When the vehicles get to the point where they
need to be replaced, the fleet department looks up the state contracts
for vehicles and purchases the appropriate replacements. The surplus
vehicles are then put into a holding area, where they are then shipped
to a local auction company. We also help support other departments with
special needs like welding on many items like the Sharps Ferry Bridge.
Another
one of our services to
Marion
County is the maintenance
and upkeep of generators located around the county. These generators are
a crucial part in keeping
Marion
County up and running in
the event of a disaster. There are generators located at the jail,
sheriff's department, county courthouse, property appraisers and tax
collectors, the utility plants and at our very own site. We have a
mechanic who drives a specially equipped van to all of the generator
sites on a regular basis performing maintenance checks and repairs to
insure the dependability of these generators.
