General Standards (CORE)
8:30 - 9:20 a.m. Pesticides and the Environment, per Unit V Applying Pesticides Correctly – this portion will include Sources of contamination, pesticide characteristics, karst topography, how pesticides move in the environment, preventing surface and groundwater contamination.
9:20 - 10:10 a.m. PPE and Handling Decisions, per Units VII & VIII, Applying Pesticides Correctly – Lecture includes Personal Protective Equipment, protection of skin, respiratory tract and maintaining PPE. Part 2 focuses on safe transportation of pesticides, storage and storage site security, proper disposal of pesticide wastes.
10:10 - 10:20 a.m. CORE CEU form completion
10:20 - 10:35 a.m. Break
10:35 - 11:25 a.m. Insect Life Cycles and Managing Insects that attack Ornamental Plants, per Part 2, Units 6 & 7, Ornamental and Turfgrass Pest Management – Discussion points include 4 types of plant damage caused by insects, insect feeding groups and using mouthparts to identify cause of damage, Scouting for damage and identification, and use of integrated pest management. Slide set will emphasize insect damage on ornamental plants.
11:25 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Managing Weeds in Ornamental Plant beds, per Part 2, Units 8 & 9, Ornamental and Turfgrass Pest Management – Topics covered include weed types, weed life cycles, weed identification principles, weed prevention and various control measures including cultural control, mechanical control and chemical control. Session will discuss weed management in ornamental plant beds.
12:15 - 12:45 p.m. Lunch
12:45 - 1:35 p.m. Ornamental Disease/Nematodes, per Part 2, Units 10, 11 & 12, Ornamental and Turfgrass Pest Management – Lecture includes Nematode types, recognizing nematode damage, ornamental plant susceptibility to various nematode types, prevention of nematode problems; 6 steps for solving ornamental plant problems common diseases of ornamentals, disease diagnosis.
1:35 - 2:25 p.m. Solving Ornamental Plant Problems, per Part 2, Unit 12, Ornamental and Turfgrass Pest Management – Lecture discusses importance of scouting and 6 steps for solving ornamental plant problems, reviews some common diseases on ornamental plants and common disorders (non-pest problems) of ornamental plants.
2:25 p.m. Complete Evaluation and CEU forms for O&T
2:40 p.m. Exam – O&T, CORE
