In early 1998, the Flemington Area Recreation Group surveyed local residents about the potential amenities included in their future park. In 1999, the Group agreed that the park would be named "Flemington Community Park" and include a walking path, basketball court, tennis court, playground, picnic pavilion and sand volleyball.
The Marion County Board of County Commissioners acquired the 14 acre property for $48,720.50 and made $379,970.37 in improvements utilizing the Pennies for Parks bond referendum and a $150,000 Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP) grant.
