Marion County youth invited to Discover Our Water Resources
through annual art and photography contest

Student artists and photographers ages 18 and under are invited to use this fall’s cooler weather to document their discoveries of Marion County’s water resources and enter them into Marion County Office of the County Engineer’s annual art and photography contest. With more than 40 springs, 92 miles of rivers and 32,000 acres of lakes, Marion County’s outdoors provide an abundance of opportunities to capture the beauty, versatility and adventure of our water resources.

Original art and photography entries from public, private and homeschooled students will be added to this spring’s educational booklet themed Discover Our Water Resources. This annual publication will be distributed to local fourth and fifth-grade students and county residents to encourage learning about water quality and stormwater pollution prevention.

Selected entries will fall into one or more of these categories of Marion County’s water resources: water bodies, wildlife, karst or limestone features, water uses and water-related recreation. Art entries must be original illustrations created in print or digital formats. Print entries must not exceed 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches in size. Digital entries must be original and unedited, and must be submitted in a format of at least 300 dpi/ppi (dots/pixels per inch) in size.

The contest application and guidelines are available at www.marioncountyfl.org/stormwater. The deadline for submitting entries is March 2, 2018. Email your entries to stormwater@marioncountyfl.org. Entries may also be delivered or mailed to Zachary Rountree at the Office of the County Engineer, 412 SE 25th Ave., Ocala, FL 34471. Winners will be announced near the end of March. For more information, call 352-671-8686.
