The Forest Public Library first opened its doors in the fall of
1987. Housed in an old, retired bookmobile, the library was run entirely
by volunteers. In February 1996 a new library opened -- the first to be
constructed using Marion County tax dollars. In addition to the $96,000
appropriation from the county, the Felburn Foundation contributed
$100,000.
