Volunteer Opportunities

What does A.L.I.V.E. stand for?

A.L.I.V.E. = A LIBRARY INVOLVEMENT VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE

Do you have volunteer opportunities at the library?

The Marion County Public Library System has a wide array of volunteer opportunities that are as diverse as the people who fill the positions. Our volunteers share their time and their talent with the entire county as they help us to deliver successful quality services to our patrons.

Why volunteer at the library?

The reasons for volunteering @ your library are just as diverse as the people themselves. Some come to help because they:

  • Have an interest in the library
  • Are eager to help support and enhance library services
  • Need to complete community service hours for school
  • Are interested in a career in library work
  • Enjoy the satisfaction of helping others
  • Like learning new skills
  • Want to give back to their community

There are many other personal reasons for wanting to volunteer @ your library. If you understand and believe in the mission of your public library, then come and share your time and talent with the Marion County Public Library System. As our county continues to grow so does the need for help with sorting and shelving books, assisting with special programs, keeping informational databases up to date, helping patrons learn computer skills, keeping books in the proper place so they can easily be found, and a hundred other tasks. You could be just the right person to help make a difference just by sharing a little of the biggest asset you possess, your time!

Do I need to fill out an application to volunteer at the library?

All prospective volunteers must complete an application and be interviewed for any position. They must also pass a background check and a drug screening before working in the library of their choice. Volunteers that are matched up with an opportunity will receive training for the work they will be completing.
