With the opening of Marion County’s newest public library, the Freedom Public
Library, the residents who live in the southwest corridor of Marion County now
have a place close to home to read, relax, and do research. The dedication
ceremony for the newest addition to the Marion County Public Library System
was held on November 5, 2000.
The library’s unique name came from a
list derived from among more than 200 suggestions submitted by local residents.
The final selection was made by the Marion County Commission. The 8,900 square
foot building was designed to be expandable to 32,000 square feet.
The Freedom Public Library is a full-service library
with services that include a meeting room to accommodate
up to 50 people, financial newspapers and magazines, a
computer lab to provide computer classes and for
individual use, audio and video materials, reference
materials, a drive-through portico, and ample free
parking.
