MSTU/Assessments

Road Paving

"I want to repave the road that I live on.  What steps do I need to take?"

The steps:
1. A petition must be received from a legally constituted Homeowners Association, a Civic Association, or a petition signed by 10% of the affected or assessable property owners.

2. The first $500 in mailing costs is required to be submitted with the above-noted petition. This is to defray mailing costs to all affected property owners by certified mail/return receipt. If the project is approved at the final public hearing prior to commencement of construction, then the mailing cost will be reimbursed to either the association or to the property owners who submitted the check for these costs. If the project is not approved then the mailing cost will not be reimbursed.

3. The MSTU/Assessment Department staff will mail petitions to all assessable property owners who would be affected. The petitions will be sent via certified mail with return receipt requested. Petition responsed must be received no later than 60 calendar days from the date of mailing in order to be considered. Any petition received by the MSTU/ Assessment Department after the due date for receipt will not be counted.

4. All petitions received by the petition deadline will then be tabulated in calculating property owners in favor to or opposed to the project. A list of the property owners who did not vote will be provided to the Marion County Board of County Commissioners at the final public hearing.
