Marion County Comprehensive Plan: This plan, administered by the Planning Department, ensures that development complies with the specified goals, objectives and policies outlined, to achieve reasonable, quality development with sufficient public facilities, providing for environmental protection, conservation, and recreation.

Land Use Information: Customers may obtain information about a property's land use designation and if a proposed development is consistent with that designation. Information on changing a land use designation and the relationship of land use and zoning is also available.

Applications are accepted periodically to amend the Comprehensive Plan, both for public requests and County initiated requests. These timeframes and amendments are advertised in the Ocala Star Banner. Applications are distributed and processed by the Planning Department, for applicable fees.

Concurrency/Development Review: County Planners review development plans to ensure there is adequate capacity in our public facilities to support development as required by the County Comprehensive Plan and Florida State Law, and that the development complies with all provisions of the Comprehensive Plan.

Impact Fees:  Ensures that new development will pay their fair share of the cost associated with providing facilities such as roads, fire stations and schools.

Population and Demographic Information: Customers can obtain certain population and demographic information, or be referred to agencies and offices with other specialized information.

Road and Traffic Information: Customers may obtain traffic count and road improvement information for the County, and on a limited basis for the various municipalities.

Scenic Roads:
Marion County proudly has designated many scenic roads throughout the County by Ordinance 97-1. Information on scenic roads and a scenic road map are available at the Planning Department. A Scenic Roads Advisory Committee has been established. Nomination cycles, for proposing that additional roads be designated as scenic, will be scheduled in the near future. Anyone can nominate a road using the nomination form, and all nominations will be scheduled for public hearing.

County Maps: A variety of county-wide maps, including but not limited to, land use designations, census areas, general highways, governmental boundaries, school districts, voting districts, etc., may be obtained.
