In 1987 Marion County took over operations of the Baseline Solid Waste Facility Landfill which was previously operated by private companies.

The Baseline Landfill receives approximately 200,000 tons per year of waste and is open from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Saturday. The Baseline Landfill will be completely filled with the next 6 to 7 years.
After the Baseline Landfill is filled and closed, waste received at the Baseline Solid Waste Facility will be deposited at the Transfer Station (constructed in 2004) and the transferred to an out-of-county landfill for disposal.
