Stormwater Assessment

The EPA’s 1972 Clean Water Act requires us to comply, but did not provide any Federal money.  Marion County created the Clean Water Program to support this financial burden and fund the new requirements with the Stormwater (Clean Water) Assessment. Our funds come from a county-wide, non-ad valorem assessment of $15 per year for each residential or agricultural parcel. Commercial and industrial parcels pay a multiplier which is determined by how much impervious area is on the parcel.

It is recognized that some properties have already taken responsible actions toward meeting the goals of the Clean Water Act and should be eligible for a discount to the assessment. If your property has a permitted Stormwater system that the County is not responsible for maintaining, it may be eligible for a mitigation credit of $4.43 for every $15.00 assessed. Other properties may be eligible for a mitigation credit of either $2.25 or $3.50 for every $15.00 assessed, if the property is unimproved (no house, other buildings, driveway, parking lot, etc.).

Click here for the Clean Water Assessment Mitigation Credit Application. Also included with the application form is the policy which can help you determine your eligibility for the mitigation credit.
