Operations Division
Marion County Utilities operates 11 Wastewater Treatment Plants
and 34 Water Treatment Plants. As developers continue to build
new subdivisions, they either build additional plants, which are
turned over to Marion County Utilities for operation, or they
extend the water and sewer service lines to their new
development. With this many plants, we must have nearly 54,000
hours of licensed operator time each year to meet our regulatory
requirements. To meet this requirement, we employ 26 water and
wastewater plant operators. We also have a number of programs
that fall under the Operations Division. Among the programs is
the Plant Maintenance Program which employs 5 plant technicians
who perform maintenance and repair of our plant facilities. Our
pretreatment program is design to prevent hazardous
contamination of the wastewater treatment plants. Under
pretreatment, we primarily monitor the chemical discharge levels
from our industrial users and grease content from food service
customers. We are also beginning a new venture to distribute
reclaimed water to various high use irrigation systems, such as
golf courses.
