Commissioner Stan McClain is now serving on a state task force aimed at improving traffic flow and safety on Interstate 75, one of Marion’s main thoroughfares.

McClain was recently appointed to the I-75 Relief Task Force headed by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). McClain will work with a group of more than 20 officials and citizens in helping to develop recommendations that will alleviate traffic, improve travel safety, improve regional and statewide connectivity and enhance economic development opportunities related to I-75. The work of the task force will also support the overall Tampa Bay to Northeast Florida Future Corridor Study. The heavily-trafficked I-75, also known as the gateway to Central Florida, crosses through western Marion County.

“This is a unique opportunity to provide a local voice to a statewide effort that will positively impact many of our Marion County residents,” said McClain, who is joined on the task force by Kevin Sheilley of the Ocala-Marion County Chamber & Economic Partnership.

Other task force officials include representatives from FDOT, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, University of Florida and various regional planning councils, as well as citizens, businesses and economic development agencies.
