Digital Permitting 4-1-1:
How to Submit Permit Applications Electronically


To fully maximize the digital permitting process the customer must have an Escrow Account with the Marion County Building Department.

Without an Escrow Account all steps can be completed online except an in-person visit is required to pay all fees due before the permit can be issued.

CUSTOMER’S TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS:

    1.  Computer and Scanner, and an Email Account
    2.  Ability to Read and Write (“burn”) Compact Discs
    3.  E-mail Account
    4.  Adobe Acrobat Reader (7.0 or higher)
    5.  Ability to Save Documents in One or More of the Following Formats:

         .pdf (Portable Document Format)             .jpg (Joint Photographic Group)
         .msd (Microsoft Scanned Document)        .doc (Microsoft Word Document)

Note: A .pdf is required for all building plans submitted electronically


DIGITAL DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS:

To ensure a successful electronic submittal, emails should not total over 12 MB
in size. Set your file print output to a max of 1000 dpi in order to compress file size.

Plans:

     Scale:
          1/8” = 1’.0” Minimum at 11” x 17” page size
     Approval Mark Space:
          3”x 3” Blank Space in Top Left Corner of the Building Plans
     Encrypted Electronic Signature:
          Per Appropriate Licensing Board Regulations (when required)

Energy Forms:
As Required

Application:
     Save and Send in one of the formats: .pdf, .msd, .doc

Notice of Commencement (Optional)
     Scanned the Recorded Document in one of the following formats:
     .msd, .pdf, .doc

Site Plan
     Drawn to Scale – Save and Send as .pdf


APPLICATION PROCESS:

1. Open Fillable Permit Application (PDF)
2. Complete Permit Application Form
3. Digitally Sign Application –or– Print Page 2; Sign; Notarize; Scan to a File;
    Upload as Attachment
4. All Required Documents in the Body of Page Four of the Application, or As
    Attachments to an Email
5. In the Body of the Email, List all of the Files You Have Attached to this
    Electronic Permit Application Submission – This Way We’ll Know if All
    Attachments arrived with Your Email
6. E-mail Permit Application to MyPermitApplication@marioncountyfl.org
Once the Plans Review Division completes the review comments will be emailed directly to the customer (either what materials are still needed or that the plans are approved)
7. If Necessary the Customer Replies to Plan Review Division Comments by E-mail


ONCE THE PERMIT IS ISSUED BY THE BUILDING DEPARTMENT:

Documentation Arrives Online:
If all application materials are submitted electronically and the customer has an Escrow Account, then the customer will receive the final permit documents sent as attachments in an email.

Documentation Available for Pick-Up:
If all application materials are submitted electronically and the customer does not have an Escrow Account then the customer will be notified by email or by phone that a CD containing all final permit documents is ready for payment and pick up at the Permitting Center cashier station.

NEXT, THE CUSTOMER:

1. Saves the Permit Documents to File or CD
2. Prints a Permit Card
3. Prints the Job Documents (Plans)
