In August 1947, Marion County and the Lake Weir American Legion Post No. 262 entered a 50-year lease agreement for the use of Legion Beach. In 1971, both parties terminated the lease and entered a new, 50-year agreement in partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Lake Weir for joint supervision and management of the area. The American Legion post and Kiwanis Club soon joined efforts to construct a recreational building for their use. The building has been used as a voting precinct since 1973. The Kiwanis Beach facilities of today can be rented for public use for various-sized gatherings, from cookouts and parties to weddings and reunions.
