NOTICE OF ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

FOR VACANCIES ON VOLUNTEER ADVISORY BOARDS

 

The Marion County Board of County Commissioners currently has vacancies on the following volunteer boards:

 

 

  1.             Planning and Zoning Commission

                (1 Full Member/Full Term)

     

    Members shall reside in Marion County. No member shall be an employee of the County. Employees of other governmental entities are eligible to be members provide they are not elected officials, in positions to establish policy for their employer, or department heads or higher.

     

    Responsibilities: The Planning and Zoning Commission shall act as an advisory commission to the Board regarding comprehensive planning and zoning matters; to serve as the local planning agency making recommendations to the Growth Services staff on all elements of the Comprehensive Plan and proposed amendments thereto; to make recommendations to the Growth Services staff on zoning changes and special use permit applications and to hold public hearings regarding Comprehensive plan amendments, zoning changes and special use permit applications.

     

     

     

  2. Pine Run MSTU Advisory Council

          (1 Full Member/Unexpired Term)

     

          Members must be residents of Pine Run MSTU.

     

    Responsibilities:  May participate in preparation of annual budget, review and comment on programs, activities, operations, goals, and objectives of the district and make recommendations on these and other issues to the BCC.

     

     

  3.                Tourist Development Council

                  (1 Full Member/Full Term)

     

    Applicant must be a registered voter of Marion County and must be an individual involved in the tourist industry that demonstrates an interest in tourist development, but must not be an owner or operator of motels, hotels, recreational vehicle parks, or other tourist accommodations in the county and subject to the tourist tax.

     

    Responsibilities: The TDC meets at least once a quarter and make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners for the effective use of tourist development tax revenues. The council continuously reviews expenditures of revenues from the tourist development tax fund.

     

  4.               Marion County Historical Commission

               (1 Full Member/Unexpired Term)

 

Applicants should have an interest in the history, cultural lore, development and institutions of the county, as well as an interest in actively preserving and commemorating this heritage.

 

Responsibilities:  The Marion County Historical Commission shall collect, arrange, record, preserve, interpret, produce, create, and display historical material and data; to procure and preserve narratives of the early pioneers, their exploits, perils, privations and achievements; to collect material of every description relative to the history of its Native American tribes and wars, and relative to its soldiers, its schools and churches, its commerce and industries, and other institutions. The historical commission shall provide education on the history of Marion County to the public.

 

 

 

            Applications for said vacancies may be obtained at the Marion County Board of County Commissioners’ Office located at 601 S.E. 25th Ave., Ocala, Florida; online at www.marioncountyfl.org or by calling 352-438-2323.

 

The deadline for receiving applications is August 29, 2019 at 5 p.m.  The Marion County Board of County Commissioners plans to appoint members on Thursday, September 17, 2019 or as soon thereafter as possible.
