Matthew G. (“Guy”) Minter has served as the county attorney since 2010. He has been a member of The Florida Bar for more than thirty years, most of which has involved public sector practice. Minter has a very broad base of experience in Florida local government law and has been designated by The Florida Bar as a Board Certified Specialist in City, County and Local Government Law. He has had “first chair” trial experience in more than sixty jury trials in five different counties, as well as in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. He has also handled appeals in state and federal courts. Minter is admitted to practice in all Florida state courts, as well as the U.S. district courts for the Middle and Northern District, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeal in Atlanta and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Prior to joining Marion County, Minter served as deputy county attorney for Volusia and Seminole counties, county attorney for Charlotte County and general counsel for Sarasota County. He has also been a traffic court hearing officer, assistant state attorney and assistant public defender.
Minter graduated from Stetson University College of Law, where he was introduced to the field of local government law. He received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Florida. He was born and raised in Orlando, Fla.
