Rent/mortgage assistance

Who’s eligible?

Marion County residents/families who are unable to stay current on rent or mortgage payments because of a loss of income due to COVID-19.

Eligible tenants or homeowners must live in Marion County but outside the limits of the city of Ocala and are income qualified based on the submitted application.

Funding purpose

One-time assistance intended to pay for three months of rent/mortgage, either current or in arrears. Maximum assistance amount is $5,000 per applicant.

Funding details

Funding is available until expended or Dec. 31, 2020, whichever occurs first.

Public service assistance

Who’s eligible?

Marion County-based nonprofits registered as 501(3)c agencies.

Funding purpose

To assist Marion County’s nonprofits and their efforts to combat the effects of the COVID-19 on their staff, the capacity to carry out the its mission and on the people it serves.

Eligible projects should be either new or an increase in capacity for an existing program. Eligible project examples include:

  • case management
  • counseling programs; examples: financial, mental health, domestic violence
  • food pantry resupply
  • health care support
  • job retraining
  • meal delivery
  • mobile medical testing/care
  • personal protection supplies and training

Microenterprise

Who’s eligible?

Marion County-based microenterprises; those having no more than five employees including the owner.

Who’s not eligible?

The following types of businesses are not eligible: chains, franchises, real estate investments, marketing, firearms and adult entertainment.

Funding purpose

To assist Marion County’s microenterprises located outside of the limits of the city of Ocala which have been in business for at least 12 months prior to application date to retain employees and mitigate the loss of revenue due to COVID-19.

Funding details

Assistance of up to $25,000 is available to cover up to 6 months of operational expenses, including:

  • rent
  • salaries
  • utilities
  • debt obligations

Funding is available until funds are expended or Dec. 31, 2020, whichever occurs first. Assistance will be provided via a zero-percent-interest loan or, if the number of employees remains constant after one year, a forgivable loan.

Emergency shelter operations/temporary housing

Who’s eligible?

Shelters located within Marion County which do not place prerequisites prior to admission, do not separate families and do not charge for admission. Such shelters include those designated for homeless, youth and victims of domestic violence.

Funding purpose

To assist with increased demands and costs to prevent, prepare for and respond to COVID-19, and to provide temporary housing to homeless individuals/families while the shelter may be closed or limiting admission due to COVID-19.

Eligible purchases and projects

  • case management
  • expanded staffing to support the pandemic response
  • food
  • supplies
  • street outreach to support the pandemic response
  • up to six weeks of temporary rent/room
  • transportation to and from health, mental health or substance abuse treatment services
